Southampton announced on Saturday that defender Jack Stephens had signed a new five-year deal with the south coast outfit.
Despite joining the club in 2011, the centre-back had only made one appearance before he replaced the injured Cedric Soares in a Premier League clash in January of this year, following a number of loan spells away.
Another injury for captain Virgil van Dijk just a couple of weeks later that ruled the Dutchman out for the rest of the season ensured that the 23-year-old went on to become a regular at the heart of the defence alongside Maya Yoshida, making 23 appearances in all competitions.
Southampton supporters were quick to have their say on the new deal via social media, and many think it is well deserved after the impression he made last season, while others have even tipped him to captain his country in the future.
