According to the Daily Mail, Fulham are hoping to sign Leicester City outcast Danny Simpson in this January transfer window.
What’s the word?
Fulham are seeking to bring the Foxes’ full-back to Craven Cottage this month, where he would reunite with manager Claudio Ranieri. Simpson was part of the Leicester squad that Ranieri guided to a shock Premier League title triumph in 2016.
The 32-year-old right-back has slipped down the pecking order at the King Power Stadium since then though, and has made just four Premier League outings so far this season.
If he is to get back to playing regularly, he must seek pastures new. A switch to the west London club, and a return to playing under the Italian coach, would be a smart move for both him and Fulham, who need to improve defensively if they’re to stand any chance of top flight survival.
For Cyrus Christie though, Simpson’s arrival would be less welcome news, as it would surely push him down the pecking order at Craven Cottage.
A welcome reunion
The 26-year-old has struggled to get to grips with the Premier League since Fulham’s promotion from the Championship last season, and as such may find he has to return to the second tier in order to get the game time he needs.
Simpson’s arrival could force him out of the first team reckoning with Fulham, in which case Nottingham Forest would be wise to make a move for his signature.

At Championship level, Christie is a fine right-back, and offers a more reliable option than the inconsistent Tendayi Darikwa. Christie also has a relationship with new Forest boss Martin O’Neill, having amassed almost all of his 22 Republic of Ireland caps to date whilst he was at the helm of the national team.
O’Neill knows how to get the best out of Christie, and by signing him he would be acquiring a significant upgrade on Darikwa too. If Simpson signs for Fulham, the opportunity could be there for O’Neill to force this deal through.
